“65% of Palestinian women want to take part in politics”

Due to social pressure, women’s participation rate in politics is very low in Palestine. “But 65 percent of Palestinian women want to take part in politics. We started a program on women’s rights and more than a thousand women participated in it,” Amna Hamid said.

Gaza- Despite the pressure faced by Palestinian women, they have achieved significant gains in many areas while their participation rate in the political area is quite low. Palestinian women, known as resisting women all around the world, don’t take their deserved place in public and political areas.

“They stay away from politics in fear of losing their jobs”

Amma Hamid, a member of a political party, thinks the reason why Palestinian women don’t participate in politics is the partisan nature of Palestinian society. “If a woman becomes a member of a party opposed by her father or brother, she is not allowed to work. For this reason, women are afraid of being a member of a political party. They have to accept what their society imposed on them.”

“Women want to take part in political parties”

“65% of Palestinian women want to take part in politics,” Amma Hamid criticizes the pressure on women's participation in political parties. “Very few women are fighting for the right change in political parties and that some political parties just want to increase the number of their members. We started a program to inform women about their rights. More than a thousand women aged between 18 and 25 participated in it.”
