Emine Şenyaşar fined 8000 Turkish lira

Emine Şenyaşar, who has been seeking justice in front of the Urfa Courthouse for 808 days, has been fined 8000 Turkish lira on charges of insulting AKP’s former MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız.

Riha (Urfa) - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP’s former Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Pirsûs (Turkish: Suruç) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered in its 808th day.

 The second hearing of the trial against Emine Şenyaşar on charges of “insulting a public officer” was held today by the Urfa 5th Criminal Court of First Instance. Emine Şenyaşar’s lawyers Meral Halat, Ayşe Şehriban Demirel and Müslüm Saraçoğlu attended the hearing.

She has been fined 8000 Turkish lira

Her lawyers recalled the sit-in protest staged by Emine Şenyaşar in front of the Urfa Courthouse demanding justice for her murdered relatives and said that Emine Şenyaşar has faced many obstacles and investigations many times for seeking justice. Underlining that the evidence in the investigation was not sufficient to give a punishment to Emine Şenyaşar, her lawyers demanded her acquittal.

 After the defense of her lawyers, the court has fined Emine Şenyaşar 8000 Turkish lira.

Until now, 31 investigations have been launched against Emine Şenyaşar on charges of “insulting public officers” and “insulting AKP’s former MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız”. There are currently 10 legal cases opened against Emine Şenyaşar on charges of “insulting”.
